What is fear?
Is fear real? Is fear fake?
Is fear a mindset?
Is fear a reaction?
I found myself asking these questions about fear in the midst of unexpected life changes. Out of nowhere, my world was turned upside down. Weeks of stress left me exhausted and overwhelmed in a whirlwind of fears.
Prior to this catastrophe, I slept through the night, I made decisions confidently without second-guessing myself, and overall life as I knew it was pretty good. But now every decision I made was filtered through the lens of underlying fear.
When asked a simple question in the drive-thru one day, “Would you like ketchup with that?” I was unable to answer and just sat there with tears pooling in my eyes. At that moment I realized I needed to get a grip on myself. I thought I really might be going crazy. Honestly, I could no longer answer the simplest questions without being fearful of making the wrong decision. Who had I become? I was now insecure, indecisive, inconsistent, irritated, and irrational with my every thought. How did I let it get to this point? Fear was overtaking my life, my thoughts, and my wellbeing.
Surely you too have wrestled with fear? Fear of the future, fear of failure, fear of success, fear of loss, etc. you name it we’ve all had our struggles with fear.
So what do you do when fear takes you out and you feel paralyzed emotionally, mentally and even physically? When your mind races with endless worse case scenarios, you toss and turn all night long and you find yourself with sweaty palms and heart racing throughout the day.
How do you overcome the torment of fear?
I would love to tell you I have three simple steps that work like magic and you’ll never have to deal with fear again, but as far as I know, that does not exist. I did, however, find the pathway to overcoming fear when it rears its ugly head. Because let’s face it, fear is not going down without a fight. Fear’s job is to knock you down, keep you stuck and leave you questioning and confused.
There is one pathway I understand to be true for overcoming fear, and that is to know PEACE. Peace is the opposite of fear. If we truly know peace the second it leaves, we will know it immediately. It’s like a red flag in our spirit goes off that we are out of alignment.
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been guilty of focusing too much on what is wrong versus what is right. That is a tactic of fear. The more we focus on fear the more room we allow for it in our life. We want to focus on peace, and we must be intentional about it. Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and He is our protégé to follow. All throughout scripture Jesus carries a tone of peace through His actions, words, and character. Read through the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, and you will get to know Jesus intimately, and learn how to live out peace in your life.
Setting our minds and hearts each day on Christ is the way to truly know and experience peace. Make no excuses, do what it takes to build a strong intimate relationship with Jesus, and I promise you will be able to overcome every fear that comes your way.
About our guest:
In 2009 Linda was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. During chemotherapy treatments, she was hospitalized in a coma for almost a month. She was on life support and given a less than 5% survival rate. The doctors told the family if they believed in divine intervention it was time to ask for it. God came through with an absolute miracle! Waking up from the coma she was told she would never breathe or walk again on her own, but God had a different plan for her! Six months later she trained for her first half marathon.
After prayer brought Linda Kuhar back from the brink of death, she was in demand as a speaker for Bible study groups and other Christian organizations. There was one problem–deep down, Linda didn’t believe she recovered because God miraculously healed her … she did not believe she was worthy.
Worthy of a Miracle is not only about Linda’s physical healing but her spiritual healing and how she discovered her true worth in Jesus. It is a guidebook for any woman who wants to more fully own her inheritance as a daughter of God. And it is for you, no matter where you currently are on that journey. It is not a step-by-step instruction manual on how to become “worthy,” but rather an inspirational practice to deepen your awareness of how worthy you already are by accepting the relationship Jesus offers.
Over the years Linda learned how to use an acronym as a simple reminder of how to live in the truth about her worth and relationship with God. To walk you through your own shift in perspective about how worthy you are, Linda shares with you the most important lesson she learned along the way: Jesus is the answer.
While training, she had the most life-changing experience working with a coach. Her coach was dedicated, encouraging, and passionate to see her overcome every obstacle. That is when she discovered the deepest desire of her heart. She wanted to do for others what had been done for her! Determined to honor her life and glorify God by loving and encouraging women to achieve God’s purpose in their life she became a Certified Christian Life Coach at Christian Coach Institute in 2010, a Certified Human Behavior Consultant in 2011, a Board Certified Coach with The Center for Credentialing & Education in 2012, and graduated in 2020 with a Diploma of Biblical Theology from KINEO Ministry Training Center.
Linda speaks at organizations such as The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Christian radio station New Life Station ‘New Life 91.9’, churches, and women’s ministries throughout the United States. She has served on the Executive Leadership Team for Proverbs 31 Ministries Online Bible Studies released her first book, Worthy of a Miracle in 2015. Linda is a contributing author in the newly released book Igniting Revival Fire Every Day devotional as well as Your Life Still Counts: How God Uses Your Past To Create A Beautiful Future and Called To Coach from Christian Coach Institute.
She’s been married for 26 years to her high school sweetheart, Todd. Her husband is such an incredible man who has always stood by her side and he continues to motivate her to be the woman God created her to be. They have one amazing daughter, Megan. She is a 20-year-old with a passion and love for design and fashion. They have two small dogs, Little Bit and Maggie, who are always by their side or on their laps!
Linda’s favorite time of the day is early in the morning before anyone is awake. This is when she has quiet time with God. Her day is never complete unless she starts it with God. She loves nature, being outdoors, hiking, and most of all hanging out with the family.
During these challenging times, it’s absolutely vital to have a sound plan, solid advice, and to stay connected to those who are equipped to help you maintain clarity. Linda is equipped and committed to expertly coaching you in discovering God’s purpose for your life, immediately start living and loving courageously while also learning how to push through resistance and grow from adversity.
