James 1:12 Common English Bible (CEB) Those who stand firm during testing are blessed. They are tried and true. They will receive the life God has promised to those who love him as their reward.
When we are walking through the midst of trials and challenges, it can seem like the easy way out is to just give up and collapse under the pressure; to hoist the white flag of surrender and cower in front of the enemy.
Let’s face it, life can dish out some serious heart breaking tragedies; death of a loved one, financial hardship, divorce, bad health report…the list goes on. The Christian walk is often times like a battlefield, on which casualties are the minds and faith of believers who’s souls have been injured from incoming enemy fire.
Sometimes there may be a season when it seems like the incoming enemy rounds are small and minor inconveniences or irritations. Other times it will feel like the full fury of hell has been unleashed on you, launching a heavy barrage of artillery and air-borne bombardment. My friend, that is when you’ve got to press into a deeper level of faith and trust. Deeper than you may have experienced before.
It is during the times of assault and a feeling of surrounded by all sides, that you as the believer need to press harder and firmer in the Lord, more than ever before. When your back is up against the wall and you are staring into the mouth of the monster, the last thing you should do is tuck tail and faint.
Sure, it’s easy to have the faith to make it through a minor rain shower, but do you have the faith to survive a hurricane? Are you solid and firm on your belief that God can see you through anything? Can you believe the beautiful irony that He can use those same circumstances to then bless, enhance and promote you?
When there are no other options left and every avenue of physical resource has been exhausted, where will you turn to?
John 16:33 Modern English Version (MEV) “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.”
Because of Jesus and what He accomplished at the cross, you are able to stand firm and persevere.
It is through the fire and pressure that our character is developed and our faith stretched. When you’re brought low to your knees and everything you’ve tried has failed, that’s when your faith is really stretched. That is when your only other recourse is to call out to the Father for divine help and supernatural intervention.
Through deliberate, humble obedience and after faithfully standing and persevering in the midst of the fire and storm, you will find yourself on the other side of the trial far better than before. You will discover that freedom can be found in the fire. God will use the flames of life’s trials to burn away things that may have been holding you in bondage. You will be better equipped more sure of your walk with the Father. You’ll be stronger, wiser, more compassionate, intuitive, sensitive and mature. You will be seasoned and a child who is closer to the Father.
So, the next time you’re in the middle of a life trial and you feel like your world is crumbling around you, fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. He will strengthen your lines of defense and ensure you are not overrun.
Hebrews 12:2 Living Bible (TLB) Keep your eyes on Jesus, our leader and instructor. He was willing to die a shameful death on the cross because of the joy he knew would be his afterwards; and now he sits in the place of honor by the throne of God.
